Infra Petersburg
Boris Grebenschikov
01.06.07 – 28.07.07

In the beginning of June at Elena Vrublevskaya gallery on Rozhdestvensky Boulevard an unusual exhibition will open. A famous musician, the leader of AQUARIUM group Boris Grebenschikov will present his photo works. The exposition consists of the photographs from series “Infra Petersburg”. This exhibition is timed to the 35th anniversary of Grebenschikov’s and AQUARIUM’s creativity and will last for two summer months – from June, 1st to July, 28th.

There are many witnesses of how the actual music of 80-ies was created. In standard flats in the outskirts of Leningrad, Moscow and other cities the concerts were played and the albums recorded. Domestic tape recorders and usual acoustic guitars were used. With improvised means something special was created, that was and still is really interesting and meaningful for the great amount of music fans. In the centre of all this was Boris Grebenschikov – not a musician by his education, but a mathematician.

The history repeats itself. Nowadays, BG who already established himself as a musician, experiments in photography field. And again improvised means: non-professional phototechnique, computer, Photoshop program. Those, who have seen these works unanimously speak about a special kind of magic, emanating from them and about the unique author’s view on the habitual to the capitals’ citizens places. Not in vain Boris Grebenschikov’s exhibition takes place in Elena Vrublevskaya gallery. Grebenschikov supported and took part in the festival “Tibet. Traditions. Art. Philosophy.” in 2004 and 2005. Elena Vrublevskay gallery was the founder and one of the organizers of this festival.

Some people will assert that these works are not of great artistic value. Maybe, they are right. But BG’s photographs are out of this context. They are working on the other level, in the other system of values. In this case the author is important and what he wants to say. And he himself chooses the language.
